The Superbike World Championship (SBK) is a championship that has been organized since 1988 and depends on the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM). While MotoGP are prototype races created directly for competition, the WorldSBK motorcycles are series derivative motorcycles, of which a minimum number of them are manufactured and marketed.

These are four-stroke motorcycles and depending on the cylinders used they can be smaller or larger displacement. The sole tire supplier is Pirelli and apart from some brands that participate in MotoGP such as Aprilia, Ducati, Honda or Yamaha, Kawasaki, MV Agusta and BMW currently compete.

The scoring system is the same as in MotoGP, adding 25 points to the winner where the first 15 score. In each event called “Round” 2 races are disputed, so that if someone wins both races they can score up to 50 points in a weekend. On Saturday the fight for pole is disputed and the classification of these training sessions defines the starting grid for the first race. For the second race, the first 3 of the first race move on to occupy positions from 7 to 9 on the grid, while those classified from 4 to 9, advance 3 positions. This means that the 4th classified in the first race is placed on pole for the second. A formula that has been applied recently and that provides second rounds with very intense first laps, with many overtaking. The ease of overtaking becomes a key factor to come back.

Within this contest, along with the SBK category, others are organized such as Supersport (600cc motorcycles), Supersport 300 for motorcycles with half cubic centimeters and Superstock 1000, with models designed with almost 100% motorcycle components street.
