Over the last few years to encourage the emergence of new talents, different promotional cups have emerged organized by Dorna, a company that manages MotoGP rights, following the same formula as the successful Red Bull Rookies Cup, which is organized non-stop. since 2007.

The first was the AMA Rookies Cup created in 2008 in the United States to seek new youngsters with projection to replace the Rainey, Schwantz or ultimately, Roberts Junior or Hayden, MotoGP champion. It was organized on American circuits, with the support also of the sponsor Red Bull, but after a racing season it did not have the expected success, not being organized again.

Faced with the need to support stars in countries with tradition like Japan or Australia, and new ones where MotoGP is hitting hard like Thailand or Indonesia, the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup was created back in 2014. From it World Cup riders have already emerged such as Sasaki, Toba, Masaki or the talented Oncu brothers: Deniz and Can. Some of his races coincide on the same weekend as MotoGP or WorldSBK to optimize costs for his organization.

For 2017, the European Talent Cup was organized for the first time, framed within the FIM CEV Repsol and filling the gap left by the Superbike category. The interest of this category is that younger riders can show their worth in a championship where all motorcycles are the same and cost the same, rewarding talent over economic capacity. It is the natural step prior to the Junior Moto3 World Championship from which the Moto3 Production sub-category disappeared.

In 2018, a new cup was born, the British Talent Cup, with the clear objective of supporting young Britons to reach the World Cup. A country with a huge tradition in the past but that since 1977 has not had a champion in the highest category. It will follow the same formula as the Asia Talent Cup, mechanical equality on a Moto3 Honda NSF 250R. It will be held on weekends together with the BSB normally.
